I posted this about 5 years ago: https://www.chestofcolors.com/forum/view ... ?f=33&t=47

It marked my entry onto the forums. Having posted a lot on the old Headblast forums, it was evidential that I registered here.

Before going nostalgic again I want to thank all of you: this is really the greatest painting community I know. It's really a group of painters I can count on: replies are always fair and constructive, and the overall level really suits my own painting style. I'm going to dedicate a post to CofC on my blog soon, I hope this will attract some additional painters.

A lot of things happened in 5 years: I've been on hiatus for numerous times, abandoned my "Pendragon Studios" project, changed my painting goals often, even considered quitting the hobby entirely. Motivation and inspiration are the two key factors for getting into the painting mood, but they're also very fragile. My private life was also quite an adventure in the past 5 years: I got two daughters, switched jobs twice, moved to a new house...

I've been browsing through some of my old posts, simply because I'm a nostalgic person :) I was really amazed by the amount of figures I painted in the past. I really lost a lof productivity over the years :)

Some other great topics I found:

displaying some of my first painting works: https://www.chestofcolors.com/forum/view ... 2404#p2404
meeting with some international painting friends in 2005: https://www.chestofcolors.com/forum/view ... =30&t=1175
announcing my return after almost quitting the hobby: https://www.chestofcolors.com/forum/view ... =33&t=5060

I've also found a lot of discussions with my painting-brother Mordred. I know he's still painting, and tried to convince him coming back here. If someone has a plan to get him back here, please share it! :)

Thanks again everyone, you're the best!

-Gerrie

This is a really nice read, and the progress over the years is really evident. Great post dude :) and it's good to know a bit more of how things have progressed over the years too.

Glad to know you're such a nostalgic guy, Gerrie.

First of all congratulations and thanks for staying with us for all these years - through the better and worse days. With all the departures and returns.

Man, it was so nice to recall the way since the first post to the point where we're now. I enjoyed seeing your early works and comparing them to the later ones.

I've had no news from Jasper, which is a pity. But maybe we manage to get in touch again one day?
You've always been a part of the most regular group of users of this forum, even a moderator at some point. Remember?

Eh, good times... It's great to know you didn't get discouraged over all the time and are still present in the hobby.
Thanks for everything and I wish you much good time with folks here and with your paints and miniatures!

I always think this is an all-or-nothing hobby. You're either giving everything you got to paint a masterpiece, or don't paint anything at all. There's nothing like a casual miniature painter in my opinion.

I've seen Jasper in real life a bit more than a year ago, but we mail each other now and then. He finally graduated last year and started working a few months after. Also moved to a new house to live together with his girlfriend, so busy times for him too.

I know he's an avid WHFB player these days, he spends a lot of time in the GW store in Antwerp. He's still painting his dark elves army, but I don't think he does anything near showcase quality these days...

In the last email conversation we had he told me it's all about motivation: and having some painting session together should really boost this for him. Maybe I should make some time for him and do some painting together again, like we did in the past. Another reason he has given me is the lack of decent painting competitions in Belgium. Some nice events are cancelled, so he has a point there too.

It would be lovely to have him back here, or at least have him painting again. Maybe we should start a poll: do you want to have Mordred back here: and when we have a decent amount of yes votes I can send him the link to try to persuade him :)

Or if anyone has another plan?
