I often see miniatures with an unshaven, and unkept look, and I'm curious as to how its achieved? I was going to attempt it by carefully applying a waterered down wash to my mini's chin, but I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about it.
Any suggestions?

Re: Stubble
either add a little grey/black to your skin color, or glaze the chin/cheeks with dark grey/black, or - in case of larger scales - you may even want to add some texture by touching with a larger brush (maybe a make-up one?).

Thanks, I'm thinking of giving the glazing method a try to begin with, I actually found a nice little tutorial earlier on over on CMON, the results seem nice enough.

Re: Stubble
Have a look at these two video clips from the Andrea Painting Guide, they show in great detail how to paint a face and touch on the stubble at the end of the 2nd clip.

I found them both very interesting even if it's about doing a HUGE scale model

Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again
