revealing a secret + call for help

Post by Corvus »

Hello everyone, a shout-out for help from me this time. Does anyone here know a good concept artist or logo designer? I'm looking for someone who wants to work for free, but he or she will get a lot of exposure in return.

Here's why I need him: my former classmate and friend Tommy is currently in the progress of developing his own skirmish miniature game. It uses a unique set of rules, but will allow miniatures from all manufacturers, as long as it fits in the fantasy universe. Tommy is an experienced games designer, and I am helping him with a background story, fluff and of course some painted miniatures for the future battle reports.

We have been working on this for quite a while now. The details of the game are still secret, but we decided to lift the cover a little bit already for this call for help. Of course I will keep you guys up to date with the game's development as this story continues.

So if someone can bring us in touch with a good artist, please PM me!

Here's what Tommy has to say:

Hi,

my name is Tommy De Coninck. I have been active in (board)game design for considerable time now. You can look up my ludography here: https://www.geekdo.com/boardgamedesigner ... de-coninck.

My current project is an innovative, fresh view on the table top miniature games. I developed a new market approach and business plan and would like to provide a new Miniature Skirmish Tabletop Wargame. Currently the beta rules are ready and playtesting with friends has begun. To give the game more backbone, I came into contact with a writer who provided the background story. His free contribution will generate more stories about clashing heroes and will make the book grow more mature.

But a game rarely gets any attention if the players are not overwhelmed with art. Art is the eyecatcher, the motor. I am an artist myself, but I cannot find the time to create new pieces. (https://www.toco.be)

That's why I'm looking for good concept artists. Is there any possibility you might want to create one or more drawings to be used as fluff in the rulebook? We will not gain any financial profit and because of this, unfortunately, we cannot pay you anything at this time. We are trying to reach out to the miniature gaming market with our unique concept and see if it catches on. The benefits for you would be field experience and portfolio content. We plan to create a website and start to generate interest by the gaming community. It will give you exposure as an artist.

There are no plans in the near future to generate revenue with our game. It is unique and hopefully it will catch on if the total package of rules, stories and art look stunning. Until then, we are patiently awaiting the cooperation of some fine artists like you. Later on, we can adjust the financial approach.

What are we looking for? The game is about heroic confrontations in a fantasy setting. All known fanatsy races will be included. Each player controls one hero miniature and one or more sidekicks. These sidekicks are beasts, animals or creatures of any kind. A good piece of art would be for example; a hooded Elven Paladin with his Wolf companion, an armourclad Dwarf with his Bear sidekick (not ridden) or a Gnome female with a snow leopard friend. Pencil works are fine. Not too much background drawing is needed.
The second thing we're looking for a one full color piece for the front cover. But I do understand this is not evident to ask for free, so we'll stick to black and white inside art first.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Best Regards,
Toco(king) and Corvus

I wish I knew anyone who could help... Unfortunately I can't help much. Good luck anyway!

The Mrs knows a couple of graphic artists, I sent her a link and she'll ask them for you.
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again

Well I think he wants to see the AA project already rolling at some speed before he jumps on that train.

The Mrs e-mailed two of her friends and one of them is away from his work desk right now so will probably take a week or two to get back to us and the other one hasn't responded yet either way... I'll keep you posted
