Nameless in 2010

Post by Nameless »

2009 was pretty succesful to me, let's what I can achieve in 2010 :)

new goals? not really. decrease my Hall of Shame, increase Hall of Fame, varied selection of minis for painting, some bigger projects maybe, 8.5, contest win.

Keep me motivated in the next 12 months :)

1/2010 - Stormwing the Dragon

Post by Nameless »

let's get this thing going, shall we?

I've started 2010 with a big bang. Here's something I always wanted to paint - the dragon. Yessir, these are the most fantastic of fantasy creatures. The whole project begun some time ago. Due to different reasons I checked the box with one of reaper dragons I had never really liked. It looks pretty boring on the pic. It looked awesome in RL. I initially thought I would need few months to paint it. It's pretty big, its wing covers the whole eldar falcon when placed next to it. The Iron Painter contest made me paint it in 2 weeks, including assembly, preparation and basing. As the whole scene (base bottom to the wing top) is 10" high, I think we can qualify it among big projects. something I failed at in 2009.

CMON this way

oh, and a short intro story I prepared for IP:

There is a kingdom in the far north. Its borders are marked with bones and skulls covered with snow, land is empty and devoid of all life, as no live being is welcome there by its ruler.

Some call him Stormwing, as he rides the wind, some call him Coldblooded, as he's never shown any sign of mercy.

Some of the northern tribes worship him, some try to fight him. All fear him, as he is the true and only master of the land of ice and snow.

I really do think this is such a superb piece, considering how quickly you managed to paint such a huge figure too. The base is detailed and interesting but without taking away any focus from the model. It's unfortunate you didn't go into next round at IP but you should be proud of this.

What did you do to achieve the water effect? is it just PVA glue? or other stuff?

Awesome piece Nameless. I like the mini, too, and you have chosen a great scene for it with lovely colors.

I hoped for an ice effect ;) few thin layers of two-component, transparent, fast curing glue. first layers were with a little bit of green ink, and even less of blue ink, followed by pure glue. Some baking soda sprinled/glued on top.

thanks for kind words guys.
