Didn't see this coming. It's probably going to be awful since it's a straight to DVD CGI movie from some lesser known company. No trailers or anything at this point, just a domain.

I am quite curious about the final effect. There have been high hopes since the demise of "Damnatus" (was it the name?)....
But I share your opinion that it may not stand up to the expectations... even though these are becoming lower and lower.

you would surely prefer "Ultramarines, the opera" - expanded version of old Chaos Gate soundtrack...

Not familiar with the Damnatus reference, although I do remember the old Chaos Gate game. Think I also have Final Liberation (epic 40k) in storage somewhere.

Would be nice to be pleasantly surprised, but I really can't picture them staying true to the "grimdark" lore. At least they're not trying to do some sort of live action film and supposedly the Dawn of War intro CGI was pretty good.

I would be much more interested in a Horus Heresy era film. Seeing as how it's the Ultramarines, I'm guessing the enemy race is either going to be Dark Eldar or (even more likely) tyranids.

Damnatus was a fan-made movie set in 40K universe. 100% non-profit fan project, was closed and removed by GW because of copyright infringement.
That was a real shame...

They could at least make some deal to keep it available, or buy it, ot whatever...

Interesting, it sounded like Games Workshop didn't have a choice after reading the article. If I understand correctly, German law renders Games Workshop unable to grant permission to distribute the film without completely relinquishing control over the intellectual property. It also stated the developers of the film couldn't transfer the film rights to Games Workshop?

That sounds a bit silly if it's true. I would think the parties could come to an agreement and say "yes, you have permission, but only under the following guidelines..."

If that's the only possible interpretation of German law, I wonder how any transfer of German intellectual property to England is possible at all. There must be some way of doing it, but the Damnatus guys didn't have the money to find it and GW didn't really care for it, I am afraid....

I can't believe there's no way to solve this...

I've just read that the Damnatus movie was finished and is available for free in the internet.
