I usually use GW paint on matte varnish but I would like to try a spray on matte varnish. Which is the best, GW or Vallejo? and are there any tips when using it? thanks.

varnish? I'd never use the GW one.
Testors Dullcote seems to be the recommended thing if you can get it. I never used Vallejo in spray cans. I quite liked Krylon and Maimeri but they're not 100% flat - which is a good thing in my book. Just like older batches of GW sprays...

I have used Citadel Colour Matt Varnish a long time ago and I was totally satisfied with the results. I don't know how the nowadays GW varnishes do, though.

I don't know if it's available outside of the US, but I've also had some decent success with a particular Krylon matte spray. If you can't get Testor's Dull Coate, see if you can get this.

Testor's Dullcoat is the best I've used so far.

Testor is good. It is also distributed in EU under Model Master brand, IIRC.
