What do you enjoy most about mini painting...

Post by Kenneth »

Hi all.

What is it that get you painting minis? Is it the anticipation of having an excellently painting mini when compared to other minis, or what?

I enjoy the act of painting. I love to watch the brush lay down colour....

This is what I enjoyed most about welding while I was a tradesman: laying down the molten steel was very much like the act of laying down paint from the tip of a brush.

What's your excuse? ;)

Fantasy is my hobby for a long, long time. Books, movies, games. I started painting minis when I started playing table-top games (namely WFB).
What is most enjoyable? I discussed about it with Illusion_rip yesterday. For me it's the painting process itself. I have no talent at all at drawing, sculpting, singing etc. Painting minis is the only way for me to fulfill my artistic/creation needs. I care about improving myself, can't say it is the important issue for me though. I enjoy painting minis even if my latest work is not the best one. Bringing the bare piece of metal to life is more than enough for me, even if quality is not outstanding.

I'm also like Nameless. With mini painting I feed my creative and artistic needs and I like the most to see how the metal figure fills with life. The latter is the most enjoyable for me.

Seeing how painting fills the metal figure with life... never thought of it in that way before... cool!

I enjoy to lay the smacketh down.......oh wait....

I enjoy when a mini is finally finished and it's plaguing me no more. in about 1/20 cases i also like the outcome of the mini and then I am satisfied. I am a very sad painter though, most of the time ^^

I've always been creative, always been a fantasy fan, and love the variety and vast creativity available in this hobby. I really love watching something I've envisioned come to "life' in my hand. That's my satisfaction.

Thanks for the responses. I never realized before, that yes, painting a mini is, in a way, bringing -something- to life. Whether it's an idea, image or dream...

I've always been aware of enjoying the technical skills used when prepping and painting. Maybe that's because I've worked with my hands most of my life, using technique to create a finished product, when the dream or idea was someone else's baby and I provided the labour and skill. I guess I never thought my visions were main-stream acceptable... mainstream is where the money is unless you are very talented in marketing and a cluster of other people and promo related skills, or can connect with people who are... hmm...

that can all be applied to the miniature world too, if you got a name you sell. name usually comes from friends who give you 10's on cmon, talent is important, but only secondary there ^^

What I like the most is not the painting itself (which I almost rarely do anymore) but the creative work up to a project. The brainstorming, planning and working up to the painting stage...

I hope there will be more time again in the future as I definitly have some cool ideas in mind at the moment. ;)
