Hello everyone,

I'm getting back into the 40K hobby after a break of about a year and a half... but this time around I want to paint better...

I'm starting off with Black Templars as I've got some models that I can use. I was thinking of doing a split colour scheme (I'm not too fond of all black models) so I want to paint the model Black and Bone, left 1/2 black and rigth 1/2 bone, does anyone have any tips or experience in doing this?

Thanks!

Also what is the advantage of using distilled H2O instead of Tap for thinning/mixing the paints? I used to use H2O + WN Flow improver + dishwashing soap(just a little)

It all depends on your tap water. In some areas, the tap water has a lot of minerals or other contaminants in it which can affect your paint. Where I live, there is a lot of iron in the ground, and so there is frequently iron in the tap water. I have painted things white one day, and found them off-white leaning to orange the next day as the iron particles began to rust in the paint. It gets especially bad when they flush the sewer systems, as this churns up all that rust and iron, so that the tap water is orange out of the faucet for a day or two. In many areas, though, the tap water is fine, and you will have no problems using it to thin your paints.
