my big project for this summer :)

I'm going to recreate the scene where Sam fights Shelob near the stairs to Cirith Ungol, as pictured here:

I started out with a solid block of plaster, then cut it diagonally to get two triangle-shaped pieces, one big for the main rock (with stairs), and the rest is going to be used for the rest of the scene.

Cutting the big block cost me about an hour, and I did some more detailing work the next day when the plaster had dried a bit. The pictures below is the result of nearly two hours of hacking into plaster :)

Right now I'm waiting for the plaster to dry up completely (it's been two days now since the casting, and the big block still feels damp), then I'm going to finish the base with more, smaller rocks, polyfilla and sand.

glued the plaster pieces on the base, and finished them up with more plaster, polyfilla and sand

Shelob rests on two pins, Sam and Frodo are also pinned into place
