Painted or not painted, this is the question

I just had a quite explosive argument with some fellow hungarians. Some of them are about to organize an 'international' gaming event, where they are gonna invite other clubs from the neighboring countries, and also from farhter away, like Poland, Germany, etc.
The ominous question was if they should require the players to have fully painted armies, or should they allow to enter not painted armies, too? They insisted not to require full painted armies, which I think is not quite right on an international event. One of them said, he was in Poland on another gaming day before, and there it was even allowed to use paper markers instead of figures!
I just thought, I ask the polish guys here, if that's really true... and ask the others what they think, should an international event allow unpainted armies or not?

i think that if you plan to make an international event, the armies should be fully painted, to show also a "colored" part of the event.
it's nicer to see tables with colored minis rather than the shining of metal

in Poland we allow only fully painted armies at the most important tournaments, so such a big event shouldn't allow unpainted armies IMO.

We have one official Grand Tournament - no paper markers, no proxy or unpainted model allowed. The same on every master tournament
Maybe some of the players (WFB probably) "forget" about this rule and bring something like that. But I do not believe hat someona have fully unpainted army!!!

I agree;
imo armies should be painted but score for nice pained units shouldn't be added to total victory points because You could just buy nice army...

Thank you guys, I would have been really surprised to have paper markers on polish tournaments.
I think that in clubs or gaming communities it happens sometimes that you play with unpainted armies, proxies, whatever, but on a tournament it is not acceptable in my eyes.
You guys in Poland also have a GW supported tournament, don't you?

LArge events like the one being suggested should have fully painted armies after all it is an aspect of this hobby.

Yes, Dragyn, I think so too. Furthermore, this is the first event of this size in Hungary, so I think they should pay extra lot of attention to it.

If you play at home I don't mind if armies aren't painted but in organized tournaments my opinion is that they should always be painted!
In Holland if you have something un-painted it may not take part of the battles of the tournament. (even if it's something small like a shield..)

Yes we have! But support is sometime wasted by organizers (GW Central Europe employees and some greedy shop owners
So when you just start be very carefoul with chosing right people to organize this
