I need some help selecting a good high gloss paint on varnish brand. I am really displeased with the Games Workshop varnishes in general. With all of the fantastic work on this site I am sure that someone could point me in the right direction!

welcome to the forum!

as for me I use 2 brands of varnishes: vallejo and model master (for
brilliant matt);
I think You could try to find glossy varnishes from companies I mentioned - You should be satisfied

Even the Vallejo Matte Varnish is glossy! Well, it's at least more of a satin finish than a true matte. GW's 'Ardcoat is what I use over a matte sealer on gems and such things. I wouldn't use it to seal an entire model, but it works well for detail work. Krylon makes a very nice gloss spray (and a decent matte to go with it). I don't think they make a brush-on, though.

Vallejo has some rock solid stuff to check out for Varnish. You might also want to try using Future Premium Floor Finish. This stuff works wonders it is made to protect your floor so its a rock star for protecting your miniatures it also adds a nice shine/gloss. You can even shoot it through an airbrush. If you dont want the shine once it is dry hit your mini with your dull coat.
Keep on Painting,
