This is a wip of the Ex Merc from the IK line from PP. I wanted to paint him different. I mean, everyone painted this guy black and brown. But he is cool, he doesn't need dark clothes to look cool.
Apart from this: I think I have to redo his eyes, he is gloss varnished and I like orange...

Imho I dont really like the gloss varnish, it doesnt really help the model in any way.
The freehand is cool, but the orange should have more shadows, or sharper highlights which I wouldt advice ion this model cause it would be to orange. So to make it more dark you could use ink/glazes but now you did the gloss varnish it wont work anymore... :?
About the eyes, I wouldnt know as the picture is too blurry.

The gloss varnish is just for protection, it will get a coat of matt varnish later.
Do you mean stronger highlights or sharper? Stronger would be mor white added, sharper would be (for me) on the edges, which I normally use one metal plates and stuff to show how tough it is.

Well I mean both actually cause it would give more definition to the model, cause the coat looks kind of plain. What I meant with the gloss varnish is that now it is on the model you cant really 'repair' or fix things you want changed about your model, wich is a petty as you would be able to work out our comment and critics, if you get what I am saying.

I really like the original idea! reminds me some cyber-punk characters dragon freehans also catches viewers' gaze :) just add some matt of at least satin varnish to remove glossy effect :D

wouldn't you like to have the orange cloak shaded a bit deeper?

Actually, as most people tend to tell me this, I guess I will give it a darker shade in the folds and on the inside. Actually, I'm now rather happy having shown the WIP before declarin him done :D

You said you're going to hit him with the matte varnish. I recommend doing that before you add more shading. matte varnish, on a physical level, has more "tooth" than gloss. it's how it breaks up the light to give a matte finish. This wouldn't mean anything normally, but since you're thiking about adding some more work to this piece, the matte will give it a much nicer surface to work on. Loved the Guardian, and I'm liking the originality of the orange.
