Kreoss WIP

Post by HuronBH »

Hey guys, here are two WIP pics of a Warcaster Kreoss alt pose I am working on. Kreoss is a Warcaster from the Menoth faction in the game Warmachine. I am shooting for a high table top quality model with Kreoss. C&C welcome.

as for me there are 2 main "flaws" :)
-You could've worked a bit more on smoothing blendings on his eee dress
-the model would benefit a lot if You added some final highlights here and there

and of course: base it!

Basing is still to be done Demi, it's in the wip section remember?! :P

But as Demi said the robe definitly needs more work! I think the overall transition between the Bone colour and the brown is too big. Next time try to have atleast two more colours in between...

What skrit says is right but I think (a lot)more water in your ink and paint would help alot.

it seems you apply only a simple wash on the robe try to make little painted shade (as say all) :D

Apart from what has already been said about the robe I would add a little more highloghting to the gold areas, I usually work a little silver into my gold to give a tarnished effect.
The question is as you have said you are going for a good gaming standard just how much effort do you want to put into a gaming piece. So far though he looks pretty good.

Jay, that wash looks really heavy. It leaves Kreoss looking really dirty and his armor kinda oily. I'd cut it with more water next time.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I agree with alot of your points. To give you a bit of explanation the Cloak was highlighted quite well til the final ink coat which just destroyed the blend completely(I was very angry and to be honest I am having trouble getting back to the piece because of that). I want my Menoth army to have a very dirty, battle warn appearance.

***APOTHEOSIS AND SUPERIORITY FLUFF SPOILERS AHEAD***

To give you a bit of an idea about what I am going for, I am themeing my army around the Testament and Vilmon's flight from the Orgoth Temple with the Harbinger's Body(and soul). I plan to have the Testament and Amon be the primary casters I will end up using, but would like to have several of the other warcasters(Kreoss, eKreoss, Feora, and Sevarius most likely) painted up to use for tourney purposes and for fun games as already the size of the army has spiralled out of control when originally I was shooting to attain around 1 to 1.5K of menoth for the army. I'm already close to that and I do not have all the key models I want to include in the themed section of the army(like the Testament and Vilmon).

From a modeling and paint perspective, I see this army as a great oppertunity for conversion and a chance to push my painting skills a bit farther as I add wear and tear, grime, blood, and battle damage to the models in the army. I already have several really interesting conversions planned for the army (which PP has made easier with a bitz service). I want this army to look like it has been threw hell and come out not entirely intacted. None of the units will be full(except those like Knights Exemplar that have a set number of models you must take) and all of them will have at least one or two "walking wounded" models included in them. The jacks will be chipped and scarred and blood splattered, with quick repairs and armor patches on heavily damaged areas. The Avatar will be a center piece model with lots of thrall bitz all over the place as inspired by the artwork in Apotheosis on pg 110.

I am going to call the army "Black Mourning" as each model will have some sort of Black Veil or scarf over their face, or black sash if they are helmeted like Kreoss. This is in reference to the story about the Harbinger's resurrection in NQ and the description of the Black Veils all the mourners wear before she was resurrected. This army is rather an ambitous project for me and something I am shooting to have completed for Gencon Indy this August.

Once again, thanks for all the comments and I will post more as I have it.

To achieve dirt stains and a worn feel on your cloaks (and models for that matter!) you could try several things.

Thin a brown of you choice aloth with water and carfully wash it over the end of the robes untill you satisfied.

Another thing to try is to drybrush it on lower areas, again carefully untill satisfied.

Or take a old toothbrush and put some paint on and rub your thumb over it so that the spatters hit your models. A bit more tricky though as the speckles might hit areas of the model where you don't want them to!

I'm sure other people might have even more suggestions... ;)
