Mordhiem Dwarf Prospector

Wanting something to paint, and feeling my chin was nearly as bear as an elf's I decided to paint something a little different. This mini is not suitable for my dwarf army and it seems rules wise he cannot be taken by dwarves in the game.. but he looked cool. :D

Basically, I used a small number of paints but did things a little differently; the overall look I was after was someone who had been around a bit and did not look too clean. The green I wanted to seem faded; however it did not pan out as expected but still, it looks good enough. I am considering a possible mud splatter at the hem of his clothing, not sure on how to do this and whether it would work.

The rest of him I chose more subdued colours, and all but the skin and metallics I have used Commando Khaki, I am surprised just how well this worked! Why have I never used this colour before?! :D The lamp is shades of orange then moved into yellow in the middle, was going to attempt light sourcing but not brave enough yet. The base is made from milliput, could have been done a little better [the 'bricks' are quite even] but I wanted to keep this light so the dwarf itself stands out. Overall, I'm happy with him.

Anyway.. enough with the waffling. Here he is!

You should've taken photo on dark background to present the glowing even more :)
like it a lot but some light reflexes on helmet's back would work really well

I like this image of dwarfs - more natural and not very colorful. Demi's right about the light though. Taking a picture with darker background would present the lighting effect better. And even on these photos the contrast of bright colors on the lamp and the naturap colors you used on the rest of the miniature makes the light look pretty convincing :)

Thanks. =) The light was actually just something I went wrong on! Turned out much better this way as it happens, so I'm much happier. :D

Demi - I don't honestly believe myself ready to attempt light sourcing, might just get a basic mini to practice on to see if I can manage it.

I think changing your palette was a step in a good direction. It seems you CAN work with such colors.

Thanks! I do agree he is probably one of my best yet, and I like working with this type of painting. The more grimy look I think. :) The lantern I am most happy with, much better than my original idea and works well too. :D

Mahon - Yes, I am able and most definitely enjoyed painting him; may paint up a Mordheim warband to fit at some point...

And hell.. vote for me! :D Seems all the rage these days. ;)
