the beginning...

Post by Demi_morgana »

hmmm... I think this topic is a must in such community like us

so how Your adventure with miniatures started? did You read a fantasy book which inspired You? or maybe Your friends bought first minis, You saw them and that was IT?

I remember in the beginning of high school I started playing warzone (my first mini was Valpurgius - Nepharite of Algeroth) but I knew my life will be binded with miniatures after my friend showed my his warhammer ork shaman... at this moment I just knew I was caught :D

how was in Your cases?

I started doing scale modelling (tanks, planes, cars, motorbikes, all different scales) at a young age. After a short break I picked it up again in 2001, but shortly after that my best friend bought a couple of warhammer 40k boxes. I played the game for about a year, had a small black templar and tau force. I sold those because I hated to paint batches of 20 identical minis. I picked up Confrontation, played a few games, but also quit that quite soon.

So now I'm only painting :)

I forgot about planes models :D I used to make them too;
I also have "panther" tank byt I didn't manage to finish it :(

mow I have similiar situation: I'm not a super-painter but I prefer painting then playing...
to avoid painting the same models I think about some skirmish-scale system... maybe mordheim? :?

Then I think Confrontation is the game for you: small warbands, and you rarely buy more than two blisters of the same units. And all minis in a blister are always different. And of course the models are fantastic, and the game is fun to play.

Or Warmachine, as I understand that you don't need many models for that game and it's easy to learn and play. (still need to find this out for myself as well though!)

I was a leader of an RPG club in the local community center, where we were playing RPGs. After some time a couple of guys started to join, they were asking for tables and played WH40k. One of them even painted there from time to time. Seeing him painting grabbed my fantasy too, and started to pay attention to their sessions. Didn't take much time, that I bought my first figures and painting set and started to play with Orks. Then I went on to Fantasy Battle, where I choose Dwarfs as my first army. Until now, I still have the biggest painted force from Dwarfs.
As Corvus, I also didn't really liket painting large batches of the same figures, so although I also liked to play, I slowly reduced the hobby only to painting. Nowadays I paint for fun, when I have time, and started to build my own Confrontation "army", a group of Living Dead of Acheron.

I also still collect a Confrontation army: the Drunes, but never play with them, they are just for display

I started when a fellow student took me to the GW shop in Maastricht (The Netherlands) He went painting a 40k ork warboss and I started talking with the store managers who explained me what Warhammer was... and I (who was in love with fantasy :D) was sold. I bought me the plastic box with beastmen. That was November 2003 :) First I used to think there were only GW miniatures

After a while I found CMON and asked a guy from what parts he made that thing that he called a "Mid-Nor" He showed me Rackham and a couple of other miniature compagnies.
I stopped playing GW since they were too expensive compared to other compagnies IMO... Wanting you to buy 100+ models before you could play a decent game. So I started with rackham, but only painting.

I've been painting more than playing recently. But I've started Warmachine. Not too many models in an army, which means I can take my time when painting and still get a chance too play :)
Once in a while I buy a GW model, but only to paint.

So I paint for about a year and a half now. The last completed mini where I have pictures from is this one:

The date sais 21/11/2004 :)

Well now I've got a new camera, and soon I'll finish one of my Widowmakers, so you can see if I made any improvements or not :)

that's my story :D;)
