Ok, having seen the results for Golden Demons for a few years now, I'd like to know some opinions.

Why do you think it is there are so few girl painters that get Golden Demons?

Is it simply a lack of participation? Are there just fewer girls overall that paint miniatures? Do they just like to compete less?

Out of all the entries at Baltimore, there was 1 GD awarded to a girl. Chicago and L.A. tend to have a few more, but that's mostly because Jen Haley lives in Chicago and Angela Imrie and Lilly have travelled to L.A. before.

What about Europe? How many girls tend to win GDs in those competitions?

I've seen a lot of female painters online, and some are really good. So why do you think they don't compete and/or win more Demons?

Yeah, go ahead and give your honest opinions. I promise I won't go on a "man-bashing" spree during this thread. I'm honestly curious for opinions.

I think girls are just minority in the mini-painting world, and also minoity in the GD-winning world.

One thing results in the other...

There are not that many female painters... I personally don't know any. Some I met on forums like this, but IRL noone...

Overall the GD's come from the gaming community and it's well known that the gamer community is mainly populated by men. I think that the male/female ratio in both the GD's and gaming community is something like 97 to 03%. Also maybe the regio where people live have got something to do with it. On a plus point is that there are more and more female painters arriving on the scene!

Yeah... I've always been one of the only girls I've known that took up miniature painting because of her own reasons and not just to have something in common with a boyfriend. I know a couple others, but not too many.

I have a girl at the local gaming store here that is turning into a really good painter, but she couldn't make Baltimore because her husband was graduating with his master's degree that day. I'm trying to talk her into Chicago even if its just to go and see what other people do. (She just started painting last autumn.)


And I'm one of the few girls I've known that gamed (miniature or role-playing) for similar reasons. (Granted, there seemed to be a good number of girl gamers at one of the universities I attended, but that wasn't the norm. Some of those went on to do things like get a PhD in chemistry and another in genetic microbiology. Definitely not a group to use as a measure. But I digress... )

Other than that I believe she works for Dark Age but I'm not sure in this!
