Ritual's version of Dionne

Post by mahon »

My opinion? WOW!

Black isn't the easiest color especialy unless the scale is one of the larger ones. But Ritual managed to keep the highlights both subtle and natural while making them interesting.
A good reference picture if you ask me...

I like this mini untill I see the side - shots. the highlights on the arms are done on a very low level compared to the great standard of the miniature.

A great miniature nonetheless

I just might! :wink:

Thanks! I'm glad people like this one! :)

@Mordred
About the highlights on the arms... I actually painted more elaborate highlights at first, but it ruined the effect I was going for and I decided to tone them down a lot. The black didn't look black anymore when the highlights were more elaborate, so I decided to have very faint highlights on the smooth parts of the arms and only pronounce the folds in the elbow areas and near the hands. Also, the scene is not intended to have a lot of light in it and only a quite narrow lightsource illuminates her from directly above slightly in front of her. Thus the hair, face, shoulders and bossom are quite pronounced and that creates a focal point. This also demands that the arms aren't highlighted as much as the areas that are the focal point. I'm not saying the arms couldn't be done better, but this is why I painted them the way I did. :)
