Bretonnian Damsel

Post by Ana »

Hi everyone :)
After my elves, I decided that I must fight with painting light well. I chose yellow light because it looks more natural and it appears be simpler.
Unfortunately I must connect it with blue clothes (I don't like this coloristic composition :? ) So, what do you think about it?

Very nice, source lighting is something that I keep meaning to try but never seem to be able to pluck up enough courage to give it a go so well done you.

Okay... I'll be different. To be honest I don't like it! It doesn't look convincing to me, almost as if she had an accident with yellow paint...

You're a great painter so that's got nothing to do with it but it doesn't work for me, sorry!

I am a noob painter, but if anyone asks my noob opinion about it, um, sorry,up to my limited knowledge, I do not like it. The yellow paints on her upper obdy cloths and her lower dress, esp on the right legs, seems a bit wierd.

I apologize if I make the wrong comment.

yeah, you are right. I was thinking that I dont like her because she had face like Quasimodo, and little by little next elements stop looking good in my eyes . But if you think the same like I, it must be true :?
I know that it would be simpler and could be better looking if I painted her with darkness where shadows fall and with light - like from a candle or bulb, but I think that such a mini wouldn't be atracttive when viewed 'in person' (only on photos) and wouldn't be nice for gaming. That is why I wanted to do her only with the reflection of light cast from the stone on her staff.

the problem with yellow lighting on blue is it turns the blending part inbetween greenish, which I think looks really odd. I have no idea how to overcome this though...

But its very nicely painted nonetheless. Esp the base, I really like the naturalistic look of the terrain effects. Well done!

Ana, I don't know if this helps or not, but here's an example of yellow lighting that looks at least a little similar to what you were trying for.

yellow light reflect on blue dress should be a smooth bending of greenish, I agree with ladyeyes' photo, looks more nature.

I'm sory that I haven't replied earlier, but my tummy was sick. :(
I see a lot of posts about my Bretonnian Damsel. :D
I had no idea, that my mini can cause so much controversy. I think that these posts are the best proof that there are as many ideas about what light from a stone should look like as there are people.
:blackeye:

@fatgoblin: I don't quite agree with you. I think that when yellow light falls on blue surface, then human eye blends these colors into green. The only situation I can think of, when these colors aren't blended with each other is when these colors overlap on the sky. It's the eye which changes the colors by melting the spots of blue and yellow. I think it's the same with mixing paints as it is with lights. That's just how I imagine it...

@LadyEyes: thanx for example. The picture also confirms that yellow light makes blue fabric look greener. :D
