Linseed oil as flow retarder??

Hi,
I ran out of flow retarder recently, so I wanted to buy a knew one. Now the owner of the art shop told me that if I use acrylic paints, I can use lineseed oil as a retarder.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this, and if it really works.
