not many alternatives anyway ^^
what you could add is a little orange for the last highlights and some black for the shades..worked for me on my old coteaz (before i discovered the vallejo reds ^^)

Somehow I've got the feeling these are Vallejo colours.
Start with Scab red to get a good coverage and a solid layer on which the lighter reds will catch better. Or alternetively start with a white undercoat and work with inks...

looks like one of the dark of GW reds (Cant really say which...long time no using) and highlighted to blood red, then shaded with black. (I'd still add very little orange)

it dont matter that much...take a dark one, highlight it with a light one, shade it with black.

If you want really bright reds, you can also use a thin base coat of yellow before putting on the red. But it turns out REALLY bright.
