gamers tend to be happy with anything released for their armies and/or games.

we (majority of us) are not gamers. we have different standards/values. "additional monster" option does not do much for us. same for other options aimed at gamers.

are these good gaming pieces? I'm sure they are. do I care? no, not really.

Btw, just take a look around this section of our forum. I believe you'll be able to spot very interesting companies not releasing space marines, barbarians, orc heads or other bits...

This is so not true. Check gamers forum i.e. warseer forum, where most people are very critical about their armies releases. From my observation in gaming clubs there are people who are power gamers and take part in tournaments and they just buy things that get good rules, but much, much, much more gamers are different and build their armies as they want them. If they don't like any particular miniature from GW then they look for replacements in other companies. This happenes only because army collectors have their own opinion.

If I buy a box and get many bits left for futher ideas/projects, should I be happy or not?

Yes, there are some to be spotted but there aren't many of those to be honest.

YMMV
they may be critical, but they will buy it anyway.
but much, much, much more gamers are different and build their armies as they want them.
that doesn't contradict my opinion. gamers tend to be happy with new releases (I would be, too. And I was, when I was a gamer). It doesn't really matter to me if this is because there are new, more powerful rules or people just like new scuplts.
if this wasn't true, GW (and other serious games companies) would not release new editions and new models all the time.
This happenes only because army collectors have their own opinion.
I've never said that. and again, it doesn't disprove my point.
If I buy a box and get many bits left for futher ideas/projects, should I be happy or not?
you should. but it's not a major issue for me when it come to purchases. give me two minis with the same price - one, that I like and the other (with some additional bits) that I don't like. Do I need to write which one I'd choose?
Yes, there are some to be spotted but there aren't many of those to be honest.
this only shows you haven’t been checking thoroughly. There’s a lot of such companies. You may not like all of them, some may not appeal to your personal preferences, but that does not make them boring.
I believe we are both not really fond of Kingdom Death models. But, it still is an interesting range. Different, fresh, inspired. Our preferences cannot change that.

All my gamer friends buy only miniatures for their GW armies that they like. I do the same. If not at GW then somewhere else. Beeing happy with a release for 'your' army, doesn't prove a point that people will act as Pavlov's dogs and buy everything that was released. I have heard this opinion especially about GW many times, could you tell me what do you base your opinion on?

As to browsing other manufacturers' threads, I have seen all posts here for the last 3 years. And still I find most of them borring and uninspiring. Not all of course and this is just my personal opinion.

on my memories of times when I was a gamer...
on sales in JAMA, when I was co-running it...
on discussions with owners/employees of other shops...
on discussions with people working for many different miniature companies, both manufacturers and dealers - owners, CEO's, sales managers, sculptors...
on analysis of moves and politics of gaming companies...

Canon is ugly, not even talking about the giant flies drones. Heralds are cool. Chariot is slaaneshi. Nothing that I'd buy. Thanks GW for allowing me to save money
