Really like the NMM on the axe, the shading there is just excellent.

Also a bit colorful for my taste, but I've always been partial to a limited pallet. Would be interesting to see the figure on a black background because I think it would make a big difference.

Maybe it was too close, this looks much better than the earlier shots. They originally looked quite saturated and the white looked very much thicker than is actually. Good piece tho, very strange choice in colours but it does work as a composition.

I like this a lot better with the black background. I hope its with the black background your going to enter it in the wamp contest.

Oh, my mistake. The blue/teal shading threw me off, it still looks great.

I agree with the other posts, that looks a lot better to my eye. A dark background will provide more contrast for a light object, a light background for a dark object and gray is always a good balance of both. I can't remember the technical explanation, it has something to do with the human perception of color.

yeah, it definitely looks better with darker background. However, colour scheme is still a big mystery to me :)
Anyway, good luck at wamp :)

Thanks for all the feedback, i know the colours are a bit odd, but hey, he has a big axe, hes allowed to be a bit 'odd', ur one of the few forums that actually tells me if they dont think somethins working and why, its a great help to get views that are the polar opposite to my own, its appreciated

The barbarian is up on CMON now, any votes or comments are much obliged

anyways! update time!

Well iv taken a whole week off to get this bad boy done, am aiming to have at least the conversion work done by then, maybe even some paint!

on this pic u can see the beginning of the scroll work on the leg, i had actually sculpted the other side but like the wrinkles in his head i made the GS too soft and it didnt set so iv had to take them off

Some pics of his new hair, i ended up sculpting each one individually

and a nice little highlight/shadow ref, i will be lookin to make his face quite dark with lots of contrast to make him look more sinister

Backpack

iv tidied up the BP quite alot, the side panels are alot more even and have some scroll work on em, the bottom swirls will have some small gems in them. iv also added more tubing to the back and drilled some holes for the head tubes to go into, the slot where the combat drub canister goes still needs some work

some swirly scrolly detail on the exhaust vent

Just doing some detailing work on the underside of his fist, gunna be ur typical chaosy spikes

base

am still thinking about the base, am prob going to try to keep it minimal, this pic shows a rough mock up of an idea i was having, white milliput when squashed gives u a nice volcanic rock look, so am considering freshly cooled lava as a base (or freshly cooled plasma cannon melted rock...), have yet to decide who the flag will belong to, will need to do some fluff reading to work both out

for the plinth iv been in touch with dave armstong of armstrong bases about a custom octagon plinth. tryin to sort it out has been quite long winded he also seems a little flaky so whether ill get it or not is still up in the air. concerned its too flashy at the mo, suppose ill have to wait and see.

Dark purple base with dark gold flecks in....

also, any experienced GDers tell me if i was just to base him on the rock and attach it to the plinth, is it legal (ie he aint on a slotta base) and would i need to make him detachable?

Now that's really excellent. The hair makes him look old and experienced. I would separate the strands into thinner ones by painting them in linear patterns.

As for the base, well, if you don't want him placed in the open category, you should include the normal base even if you put it on a scenic display base or a plinth. It's best to make the base removable, because you never know how picky will your judges be. Usually nobody requires the base to be removable from the plinth, so they can be integrated. But if somebody decides to follow the rules strictly and not take the plinth into consideration (as display bases are not judged) and remove it - they can find a reason to disqualify you or put into a different category. Why take the risk?
On the other hand some judges have more relaxed approach and don't even require the 'gaming' bases to be added to the model as long as the plinth's size satisfies the size requirements.

I wouldn't take the risk anyway...
