I agree, the whole thing went kinda bad a bit. Though I learned A LOT while painting it. I really like the blending on my Nurgle guy, though you cannot see it on the photo, and the painted damage on the armour (which was inspired by Kacpero's work on his terminator)
The biggest problem is as you say contrast, the tentacles and armour are the same colour (I noticed that when it was too late to change it).
Natural shading increased artificially by additional shading, but wouldn't that make the mini even darker? Hmm

I know, I remember the nurgle guy.

Smoothness of blending is one thing and another is that many people tend to be too shy and reserved when shading and highlighting. And as for your fear of making the mini too dark - well, instead of just shading it you could shade it a bit and highlight it a bit. The whole thing is about the difference between light and shadow.

wow nice to read this..

thank you
and yes - you should increase contrast between light and shadow.. thats the key..
i agree with mahon that people are too shy when shading and highlighting (i have similar problem

)..
don't be afraid.. no risk no fun

and seriously - IMO after some attempts, final result will surprise you

So basically what U R saying is that shadows should be darker and highlights should (ideally) be finished with (almost) pure white? To get the contrast that is.

Stefan, he didn't ask for comments and it was my own initiative

And I believe he said he cannot provide better pics now
