I'm pretty much the opposite - have been painting digitally for several years - just only recently got into minis, or any form of physical painting to be exact. So mini painting is much much harder for me...

I try to carry some lighting concepts over, but I really can't control colors/tone with my brush as well. Mixing paints is a totally new concept to me, cause I am used to just sliding the color picker around in photoshop haha! Guess I got too spoiled.

I think what counts is your eye and feeling for the right colors, shadows and lighting, the rest comes with a bit of practice. It's like changing from automatic to manual car, eventually you get used to it
