I think GW came to a conclusion that it's easier to sell one big model than 30 small ones...for me it sure is easier to paint one big than 30 small :)
warhammer was once dubbed in poland "herohammer" - armies in one edition were really dependant on heroes. we may be now entering the 'monsterhammer' age :)

It's definitely an interesting thought and I'm with you on this one in that i'd prefer to paint one huge monster than 30 small repetitive things.

Doesn't herohammer still exist to some extent?

Sorry, I checked warseer and they didn't say where it is from. So now I don't remember where I found that it an old art :?
