Space Hulk is one excellent game IMHO. Unless they spoil it in its 3rd edition.
Tense race against time, often suicidal missions against overwhelming odds. And - what's funny - it also feels tense for the overwhelming side (usually the 'stealers).
To me it's one of the best boardgames I've played, but also... one of the games which I've played the least.
It's a two player game, and when we have any time for gaming it's usually when we meet in a larger group and need a game for about 6 players. Usually also a game which can be played in time shorter than those FFFG beasties like Arkham Horror (which I like a lot and play a huge lot less than I like it).
So as a boardgame it's not only good, not only beautiful, a not only a sentimental thing to me, but also one game which is VERY unlikely to hit the table with any reasonable frequency.
Which means I would most likely have it only for the sake of owning it at all. Just a a collector's item. And a limited edition thing would be awesome for this purpose.
But will it really remain limited? I would really appreciate having a label/certificate with its serial number to know it's an item from the limited run.
And moreover: is it worth the price?
If you calculate the cost of the minis inside - it surely is. But would I buy all those minis if they weren't included in the box? Hell no! I'd probably never buy 11 termies and 22 'stealers... I try to limit my miniature purchases to what I feel I can paint. And painting 33 minis is beyond me... Painting 2-3 is a good and very ambitious task!
And you know, guys, the minis they showed us look so pretty sweet, that painting mine to lower standard would probably leave me kinda disappointed. After all I wouldn't have the beautiful thing which I was staring at in the internet and thinking how awesome it is.
So on one side I feel the game is worth the money (hey, it's just about $100, that's not a huge heap of money after all...) and I would really love to have it in my collection, but on the other hand I wonder if spending the money on something that will most likely just sit somewhere with my other games is the best thing I can do with my money. But then, why shouldn't I buy myself such a present? But will it be as much fun to me as I imagine now?
Eh, you see now why I am so torn?
