Hello all, old lurker turned new member heremahon wrote:Not really convinced by the paintjob on the skin. Hard to disagree with Arctica....
Technical things aside, I really think you created an eyecatching piece, full of character.
And I like it better than the original sculpt
I just wonder why most of your colors are so desaturated, so pale. I've seen the model in person and that was my general feeling - maybe it's because of the paints you use, or maybe your method of highlighting, but generally I feel that a little more color/saturation would make your models look more alive and eyecatching.
But I ain't sure if it isn't your deliberate choice...
I have been painting historical minis in oils for years but have begun Fanatsy pieces with acrylics because they are more interesting sculpts and acrylics just look better and are far faster to use. COC is a great resource so hopefully I can learn some things and contribute a little.
With that in mind, could Mahon, whose work I greatly admire, please go into some detail on his post above ? How would you increase color saturation in that bust , or in general ? It looks good to me and about like my results building up many glazes/washes of Vellajo & Reaper & GW.
Any insights much appreciated.

I do like the way how the veins came out, very nice. About the pale skin I agree but then again with all the blood loss a Slayer (let alone Gotrek) has I am not surprised!

I cannot find any fault in that bust, not in the least. That is a stunning bit of work. Stunning.

I'm a big fan of Gotrek and your work does not disappoint me (lucky you
).
You have really made a big progress recently. Congratultions for that.

Mini no. 19/2009 - The City Bowels
I told you I will be painting really varied stuff this year. Another new company for me - can't recall their name at the moment, but they have Incursion game released (weird war II setting). Here's one of their minis, called Hans the Hunter, on a small diorama presenting a city sewerage system

I like Hans and the water effect. What is coming out of that pipe?
