To be honest Arctica, my only problem with your models are the bases. The models themselves are just beautiful but I don't think the purple-ish colouring on the bases goes well with the colours of the Sons themselves. I know you don't want to go with the lava look but perhaps giving them a deep red, rusty colour would contrast better with them?
Well i played around a bit with lights and positioning with my camera and models. Im happy with how he turned out and it gave me a chance to improve my grey nmm and my freehand work. Anyway here it is, comments and criticisms are very welcome.

Only 7 more models to go, but im still wanting advice on how to improve my NMM and technique. Need more practice blending and colour transitions.

love the way youhighlighted the helmet. any chance of a closeup?
the freehand on the cloak is very nice, too!
just a quick suggestion:
when painting a model with such a limited palette (blue/gold) why don't you add some variation to the colors? I don't mean several types of gold on one model but rather different shades of it (adding different colors) on different parts of one surface or at different angles.
the most obvious suggestions would be adding some purple to gold in shadows (looks really interesting) and some very dark orange (like brown) to shadows of blue. this breaks the uniformity of large surfaces and makes the model more interesting.
maybe not for troopers, but for the centerpieces it might be a thing to try - one of the last several improvements which I can suggest...

You can talk, I'm still trying to work up to YOUR qualityNameless wrote:I hate it when gaming pieces look better than my showcase
and much better pics indeed
Very Nice work Arctica
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again
Thanks for the helpful comments all.
@ Demi: the army may see some battle but since i don't play much at all it will be a rarity lol.
@ Wraithlord: the right shoulder pad is indeed shine from the light source on that side, i think the lamp was a bit too close on the model. I'll move it a tad further away next time.
@ Mahon: yea i will get some close ups of the mini for you to help comment more on. I've always needed more contrast in my work
so yea i need to work on that i think i added too much highlighted areas to the model, especially the chest, i need to tone it down a bit more. As for adding other colours i have been thinking that for a while. Been studying Ana's work for a while and noticed that she has a wide range of colours working on her blends, its something which i need to get past because generally i highlight with white and shade with a darker shade of the colour or black. So i think if i can start introducing different colours to my work i can really bring out a higher quality model.
Thanks for all the help everyone.
