Maybe the Cockatrice (but not the paintjob!) but for the rest not even the cool paintjobs on some can help anything here... What a waste!!!

I must say I fully disagree with you :) :P
I think it exactly suits the Warhammer world and especially Dark Elf sorceress, cockatrice and chimera look great (both are not GW creations and were known in many other fantasy worlds long sooner). Also the GW weird proportions and cartoon look suit me because of that fantasy feeling (that is probably why I don't play Infinty ;)) My least fav are the dragon and manticore.
As for WFB as a game it was a super choice to add big monsters and more magic to make the game more interesting and more fantasy and less regiment vs regiment look alike!
BTW
the paint job on the first chimera is fcuking great, I wonder who painted it...

Only ones I really like are the Necromancer, Tzeentch Sorcerer Lord, and Cockatrice, the latter of which being the only one I'd consider actually getting, and also the only finecast release in this whole batch. Thanks GW!

@czlowiek.morze: 2nd your opinion on those mate. The only one from the current batch I dislike is the black dragon - apart from not being really "dragonish" to me the pose simply screams "WRONG" . Other than that one of the coolest things I've seen from GW recently. And I simply love those huge battles pics.

And I've got some other thought about this relase as whole. The infantry models are all plastic, but not the "multi-part-modular" type but more like "glue-four-bits-together" type. Almost as if they were meant to be Failcast, but were at the last moment turned to plastic.

And you forget to mention the terrain pieces which are the best of this batch and probably only ones I'll buy here (the chaos/evil version of course).
Do not underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers...

I've seen this theory thrown around a couple times, but it doesn't work. The types of molds used for plastic and resin are just too different. Specifically, plastic molds are made from steel and used for injection-molding, while the metal/resin molds are made from rubber and either pressure or spin cast. I don't remember the exact reason the plastic can't be done in the same way that the metal and resins can, but they can't (something about the way the materials work in their liquid state, I believe). Now, you may think that this just means that they could take the same model and make a new mold for it in metal, but again, doesn't work. Thanks to the malleability of the rubber molds, they can handle certain qualities of sculpts (overhangs is the technical term, I believe, parts that get stuck under the mold)*. Therefore, plastic models need to be sculpted with the molds in mind to specifically avoid things like that. Theoretically, you could take a model intended for finecast to plastic, but there's a decent chance it'd have to be resculpted to work with the molds.

Now, is it possible? I suppose that yes, they may have learned their lesson. However, it's worth noting that there's a precedent of plastic casters in WHFB (the Empire Wizards set), and that the Cockatrice was still released in Finecast (*shakes fist at GW*). I think that it's somewhat unlikely that they'd go to the trouble of remaking molds for these casters, rather than just releasing the Finecast ones.

*Not very explanatory, so I'll try ASCII.

Code: Select all

|model|
 -| |-
|model|
The vertical lines are the model, the hyphens are the mold itself. Due to the metal molds, plastics can't do this because that part that's on the bottom will just break off when they get pulled out of the mold. However, with the malleable rubber molds, that part can just pull out without breaking. Thus, metal/resin can handle certain things that plastic can't.
