another wip - it's actually nearly done because all I need is painted model for gaming: we all know painted minis fight better...

I need advice about painting black:
I want to make it look bit more interesting but there are no sharp angles which I could highlight so should I just paint top of the folds gray like on the pic above?
it's missing something... it's missing a lot of something :?

The black of the cloth doesn't look that good to be honest. Did you start of a black basecoat and work your way up?
I do like the copper with the verdigris, the silver metallic parts I like a bit less. It's probably the pic but they look grainy.

To add a more interesting touch, try to work in a bright colour on the lower parts of the robes, or something like this:

(from Fluffy)

She did this by adding very thinned paintdrops and letting them dry for a bit. Then she used a slightly damp brush to 'suck up' the remains of the drop. Might be fun to try?

the robe is one of the worst sculpted things I've seen from PP. it must be terribly painter-unfriendly judging by the examples of painted models that can be seen on the internet...

I have the same model, it's a very large, nearly flat surface. The model is on a medium base btw, so it's pretty big. You almost need to freehand on that lower part to make it look interesting. Or give it texture...

Great looking mini you have there Demi, but you're right, there's something missing. I don't think that highlighting the black robe will do any good - it's flat, no folds... Maybe some glowing magical symbols on the robe could be interesting... Dunno

cs for glow I decided either not to paint anything on it OR paint it red-orange like on the reaper model so the army looks unified
as for pattern I was considering some swirls a'la rackham minis yet I know my sucky fh skills... :?

I started with grey and I was glazing it to black leaving grey "highlights", after that I highlighted the folds and here we are - I don't like the result but I have no idea where should I paint highlights to keep the robe look more-less natural...
I was thinkling about sprinkling some paint off nearly dry brush but fluffy's thing might be cool thing to try - thanks!

agreed...
and I am not whining about my lack of painting skills here :)
