Actually it's yellow. I had the same problem! Click on the 'C' button and choose another colour. It should work fine then.

2. shoutbox is very resource-consuming, so it's not the best choice for this site
3. still looking for a good solution
4. yes. the default color is yellow, which looks bad, but can easily be changed with the C button
