agree with ToMaZ: for me there's no true painting without good'ole weathering

Hmm.. never done weathering or really considered it but this is the second set of comments about doing this I have received. Any tips on this? Or at least links.

imo putting several layers of watered down browns and oranges is the best way to achieve nice rust
I try to put rust and weathering on every mini I get!

Wait... rust? On a dwarf war machine! Are you an elf? *gives evil eye* Hm, I get what you mean but to be honest rust just does not suit a dwarven army. They are much, much too proud to use rusted weaponry or armour - especially if it is their war machines. I may try muddying up the wheels or something on the next one - I have a spare frame to play about with anyway so we shall see.

Use Scorched brown and black washes, then rehighlight, and add a bit of silver or chainmail for the last highlight. This would give it a weathered look, not rusted. You could change the scorched brown with brown or chestnut ink. This will give the gold/bronze an aged warm feel.

Second warrior unit complete. Armed with great weapons and shields the unit is the last core for my list planned. A few things of note - the banner is once again freehand; not all that good granted but I need the practice. The standard bearer and champion are conversions, more or less my first and best yet (if a little simplistic). The banner pole was extended and made to be single handed the champion has his axe faced down and the head is from the previous plastic warrior set.

One thing I have to add is the shields. There are in total ten in the unit, lent up against the dwarves. The reason is that I hate the look of a shield glued onto the dwarf's back without any way of it being held there, if I was good or brave enough I woulf have sculpted a band to act as a 'holster' for the shield. Alas I cannot yet, so on the base they go.

Any comments, questions or advice is welcome. And yes, long time no post. Work.

again a very nice unit KU And another freehand, this really is a great addition to the look of the unit. This army is going to be very cool looking, I'm sure.

I would base the movement trays like the unit though. Looks better

I will be doing my own movement trays when I get round to it but for the moment the GW one works fine. ^^ Simple and easy.

Runesmith completed. He took me most the weekend but was in fact completed in a rather top speed on Saturday (mainly so, worked about six to eight hours on him in total). The beard is whiter than most to show his age and wisdom; he also has mostly metallics upon him. Not overly thrilled with the silver, it looks very NMM but without the lighting being correct. This was not my intention and is just the effect of adding grey and lighter grey to the silver base, need to practice more with this too. Last thing is also the staff and runes on his helmet have a slight blue surround, this was done by adding a little bit of Enchanted Blue to the mix. Unfortunately the effect was not reall successful - may try blue ink next time.

I must applogize for the bad pictures as I am playing about with my camera, seeing how the white balancing alters them so it may appear a little dark. Also as I only have a two times optical zoom on the camera the pictures may not show details all that well - I need to practice more with these things.

All comments, critisim, questions and suggestions for improvments etc welcomed.

I like him, very well painted, simply in dwarf style, in your style. But I would highlight more a skin, especially on hands, and gold metalics.
