@Trov - point being to show that I absolutely do not understand your statements regarding smartassing, assessment of your person here, your withdrawal from discussions carried here. what's the reason for it? because I don't agree with you? because I said "you're wrong"?
As for first impression factor - it might help you to make the first cut.
I might not be an experienced judge, but I know one thing - after the first cut, mini is watched really carefully. under good lighting. from every possible angle. and that's the time to find all mistakes.
Want an example? I loved (and knew quite well) Stefan's Sicarius. he was my fav after first cut. and then I found mistakes that I haven't seen on pics. Another one? after first cuts all judges had chosen their fav minis, and we were quite unanimous them. After closer examination not many of our initial favs got demons.
So, where's your first impression factor here?
If I get 2 minis, I'll examine them on the same basis, compare and decide which one is in my opinion better. No matter if I've seen pics earlier or not.

Ok i was avoiding posting here on nameless/trov discussion and on whats new from ana discussion... both will not be popular or upity cheerfull. But I'm not entering a popularity contest.
My opinion is very simple:
A) Its obvious to anyone serious that ANY image of anything and its time of exposure influences opinions... In mini world its the same. Even if some enhance pics of minis to create a idea of flawless work and others are prejudicated by bad photos...
IRL miniatures can be diferent for better or for worst and depends on judging eyes and competence to see errors ( even then the light conditions of the place can influence).
What I'm saying ist that any product beneficts with WOW factor on its VIRGIN launch and gives a edge ( its something to do with the new best thing search from people).
In a competitive enviroment like a GD its best to hold amno for the right time... a wip on the net can kill a mini or give life to it ,either way the surprise factor that influences people and gives some edge is long lost.
You may be a wonderfull judge Nameless but you cant deny the obvious.
B) The way you denied the obvious was not serious and lacked justification heck you were just freaking teasing... " The errors are detected irl upclose" now whos ze smartass?
Errors are identified at: anytime in wips and finished thing at any distance. The more you show something the probability of finding flaws increases.
C)Sometimes can be frustating to have a discussion about the obvious, i do hope Trov continues to post and Nameless continues to poke just for the sake of it.
And time now for a sissy comment to close my shit... how about trying to find bridges on diferent opinions instead of giving absolutist replies?
The "i laike because Its my taste" or " I know this!" " you are wrong." doesnt really help on a genuine discussion tread

I hoped that I just showed that it's not that obvious. I've never denied the first impression or exposure time factor. It is my opinion though after contests where I was a judge and where I was judging both 'old' and 'new' pieces, that their influence on judges is overestimated by Trov. They are important in the so-called first cut stage, yes. Not in further stages of judging procedure. You may be a wonderfull judge Nameless but you cant deny the obvious
my previous post did say sth about the first impression factor, which may be helpful.about trying to find bridges on diferent opinions instead of giving absolutist replies?
I believe that was a 'bridge', makes my reply 'not-absolutist', and confirms that I don't deny it completely. You accused of me all these
same for "Its obvious to anyone serious" or "you cant deny the obvious"?The "i laike because Its my taste" or " I know this!" " you are wrong." doesnt really help on a genuine discussion tread
