Ah, I understand. The colours on a mini don't always show up on the photo and this might have been the case here.

seriously you have a fantastic standard going here. I love the work on the banner, and especially the faces and beards !
the chainmails could use some improvement here and there, I would concider this because it's not very much work. the shots of the rear show flat chainmail armours, and if you only make the last rank abit better it will reflect on the entire unit.

I hate chainmail, dwarves should not use chainmail. I wish for full plated dwarven armour.. *mutter*
I do have problems with the chainmail, I did get it a bit better further into the unit ( as in the last few I painted ) but it still is not all that good. The chainmail was overbrushed with my various metal mixes ( which ended up being less metallic, last batch had one metallic paint compared to four non metalics in the mix ), it was then given a liberal wash of black ink to try and shade it.
Anyone offer some ideas on how to do this better?

Now for a few thoughts on my next unit. Twelve Thunderers and a musician. I was looking at the boxed set and I saw the shields.. HATE! HATE! HATE! them, way, way too small! The warriors ones would look odd, so I thought of doing pavise type shields. Here are what I rolled up with so far:
* Monster bases. Four dwarfs per base with a set of shields made from plastacard (sp?) in front, then a set of wound markers per base.
* Normal bases but using the regimental bases (one long base) add shields to it and place in front.
Anyone got any ideas on how I could do this? Also I have never used plastacard, so it will be a new thing. Thank you kindly.

Sounds cool, maybe shields from other races with some changes will work good too?

don't think a dwarf would use anything else than a dwarven shield

Well with a bit of tweeking a TK shield could be done to look dwarven, I am looking at hand made ones though - makes it a bit more personal. I shall have to look into this, I can paint the minis in the mean time - the shields can be done whenever.
Still, any thoughts; comments or ideas you would like to fling my way would be helpful.

I just received a set of dwarven tower shields from celtos and they look absolutely awesome, maybe you can check out their line to see if you can order separately?
