looks like some strands of a cottonpad to me. You know, the pads women use to clean off their make-up? At least that's what my GF uses them for.

About the tip: I'm not 100% sure. It looks like it, but the cotton from a cottonpad looks a bit thicker.

I'd say it's a standard cotton wool, stretched of course...
