I think that space marines are a good choice for such sell oriented painting

I thought about Space Marines, and I have a bunch kicking around. My thought was that since you have to paint a specific chapter it might not appeal to as many people? But as I just finished up my second mini to sell I realized that I think I might be painting some pretty uninteresting paint jobs. I need to make sure I am not just pounding stuff out 'cause I can and quit practicing and improving as I go. Anyway, for sure I'll be doing some space marines. I bought some of the Max Mini conversion bits that might help make my stuff stand out to buyers.

Painted this guy up quick. Like three hours tops. Went for generic brown robes on this feller so it might possibly appeal to more buyers than if I painted him up as a Nurgle wizard or whatever. However, this now looks like a really boring mini I think. Without putting any fun colours on the rob or anything I don't think I made anything cool here. Ah well, it's for the Paint for Profit challenge so I'll see if it sells!

so ok after realizing .. the awesomnes of this Event :
Ogryn
dont like - bone on base - looks like plastic nit like bone
Hairs - they just dont stand the rest of mini - well they are badly sculpted ..

Best part of mini :
backs -- thewhole backof mini looks realy good i would just add a litle pigment in colour of base on the boots - as a dirt from erth
Gut plate tusks - looks rely nice

so skin at last got all that need - thous litle hues hiden in tones

the thing that dont act well is bases - the green ones that looks caind og greem stands in the other hand totaly fresh end happy bases -
when brown one got good 1 - "atnum" base so all works well

Thanks for the crit's Maru! Agree with what's said. The dwarfs are from Hasslefree mini's. I like the mini's themselves quite a bit for what I think they are, simple mini's that are pretty bare of detail allowing a painter to add their own mark to them. However... I didn't really do that. I don't mind the first mini with the green Nurgle scheme though my battle damage sure needs some work. The second one just looks really, really boring. My thought was to make it as generic as possible for potential eBay customers so it could fit into ANY chaos army as opposed to painting it towards a specific theme would cut out most of the customers. I've thought it over and I think an uninteresting paint job is not a selling feature to anyone, and next time I'll have to remember that if I don't like the paintjob I may as well not do it. Lesson learned! Hopefully somoene picks it up when it goes for sale on eBay.

Thanks for the comments on the Ogre. I picked that mini to paint as I wanted to practice my skin tones. Unfortunately for me I ran out of steam and time towards the end of the comp and some parts didn't get my best efforts. It's a BIG mini! I forgot to go back and add pigments to weather the boots, I believe I got that advice on this forum as I posted it as a WIP. Ooops! I think that would've made a big difference. Contest is over and some really, really nice competition this year. I finished well out of placing, as I should have, and I look forward to painting a better mini for next years event. I do really like AoW mini's.

So I logged my timeon this one as it's for a "Paint for Profit" eBay style challenge over on WAMP and I thought it would be an intersting part of the experience to see exactly what I am selling (or not selling) on eBay and what the actual costs are in mini's and time. I've never really paid close attention to the time on mini's too much, but I think I might start. Just as a way of realizing what kind of results I am getting vs. effort. I mean, this guy took around 7 1/2 hours. Is it the best mini I've painted? Far from. Realizing I know I've spent at least 30 hours on some mini's helps me put that in perspective. Anyway, any crit's on this guy would be appreciated. I did enjoy the mini, and am fairly happy with the end result. It is a ROUGH sculpt! Of that 7 1/2 hrs you can probably see how much time was spent on prepping the mini (i.e. not much) though I still had fun on it.

If I had one glaring dissapointment onthe mini it's onthe lighter coloured collar of the jacket. I just couldn't find a good way to get a lighter colour like I wanted with any kind of decent looking shading. Any thoughts or tips there? I have two more of these little Micro Art guys to paint up. Damn dude you're painting speed is increased quite considerably from last when i checked your thread. Some really nice stuff and your style is really developing quite well.

With your latest model personally i'd prefer to see more focus on the goblin's face since they have such strong facial features. I'd do alot more contrast and highlights especially on the model. As for the lighter part of the jacket. I'd use more off-white colour and possibly use purple to shade it in the darkest areas to really give it some popping power !

Too right about the face. Actually I remember your step by step on the Orks you did and I really liek your style. You had said at one point that you think mini's should go from black to white in terms of their contrast, and I gotta agree with you ESCPECIALLY on greenskin stuff. Next one I'll spend the time and push a little more! Much appreciated. AND! Some more spammy mini stuff.....

Okey dokey, another quickie. A small review on what I found these mini's to be....


-Price seemed cheap, 23$ for a pack of 5 on the CMON shop

-Sculpt is bulky and fun to paint. Great for gaming, not so much for a display piece

-Casting was very weak. You can see where there are plenty of rough spots on the mini, mould lines were in pretty hard to get too spots, and it comes with the integral "Broccoli" base.


All said I do really like these mini's. I bought two boxed sets and plan to pick up more of the range to paint up for afternooner style projects. This guy was around 4 hrs from blister pack to doneski. Again, I really reccomend them despite the flaws.

I have to admit this one is not one of the best i've seen from you. For me i think it looks rather flat on the coat and the red pouches. Since the model is 90% coat it makes it look rather uninteresting for me. Sorry dude, personally it looks like a mid wip.

actualy i like STALKER look of the mini - well it is not master pice but on 4 h elapsed time is realy good

Hey, appreciate teh honest appraisal! The comment makes sense to me Eric. I'll put more effort into the next one for sure.
