Well here is a WIP pic of my B&W project a GW wardancer. I am a really slow painter as i always attempt's precision that is above my current skill level so there is about 3-4 hours on the figure so far.

My thoughts about the progress so far:
I really like the effect on the blade so far my best results with NNM, my 4'th mini with NNM on it.

I am also quite pleased with the right side of his face, here the sculpt was a but help full but still shallow.

The left side of his face are OK as it is almost flat and hard to get to.

I might went with a bit to dark base cote for the hair but par of this mini project was to try a bit more extreme contrast then I am use to. but is still to dark.

Over all I still need more paint control when working with the highly diluted paints and more experience with judge the amount of dilution need for the small details.

i hope you have something to add :-)

you havent used full spectrum of light you got dark tones end mid tones - wich make for highlights in your case - you are missing uper part of light - so actualy Highlights :P
blade looks good - but without light on it in for of actualy neer white colors end whit in "WHITE" form such as bliks of light it looks like stone blade or like militray grade "smoke" steal

as for this hairs of his .. ow .. thats awful sculpt actualy .. but yu mey always ad bliks of light on hairs - just rymember how it look on real hairs (this thing is not a random placment )
rymember Anime like hairs - somthing like that
DAGabrie
a next hobgoblin :)
upper blade got badly placed light bur lower 1 looks much better in terms of light (detailing left a lot to improve but this time is about light .. )
hym .. i would like Mahon help with this explenation ...

whenever is light ther is darknes so if you aplay light in 1 place you should aplay shadow in oposite if you applat black you shoud applay also piure white to balance things

end in case of such curved blades ther isalso reflection from the ground (in case of B/W painting it is another source of light - musch sufrer then the "zenital" 1 as it is just reflected light from the ground - but it is )

BTW - Hgoblin hands looks better on this 1
end back to blades - this white separation betven blade end eedhe part - it should be realy thiny - made with side of a brush instade of tip

ok somthing to think about
Works of "Noimic" AkA Static painter / Nomad Painter / Vesa
looking at his work wach cerfuly how strong light is on them end how he work with difrent materials - lether shine , black painted metal gun - shines on borders , when Cotton shirt just merly colorize due to zenit light when whit nylon shirt create strong end sharp contrasts

yes thet color works but with all knowled needed to create a B/ w wersion - whole spectrum of light used from darkest to brightest with preserving helthy dose of base color a 50% end 25% & 25% for shadow end lights
end this yuo mey c atthis At43 minis - if you desaturate photo thous will be as 3D as they are now

I will try to show my vision of the blades.
it might be that the are mistakes compared to the model but from what i can see this is how i'll try to make it look.

may be even darker on the middle and button part of the bottom blade.

so like thous :

yes thats Flameon work
maind that hobgoblin blades are madelike this lance you gotther 2 blades separated with flat surface
so upper blade - bright from the tip - darker to the hilt
flat part - brightest in the midle darkest at bouth ends - inner blade - reversal to uper 1 so brighter near hilt darker tip

you mey ask why im showing you a such lvl works when lower lvl would fit - well best example is the 1 that actualy is BEST :D

DAGabriel :
your blae is "reversal" it is good to but if brightest bart is midde of top blade so flat part should be darkest on tip end brightest on hilt when unner side brightest on tip end darkest on hilt :)

I know it is really rough after some repaintings, but was it this scheme, you had in mind for the upper blade?

Especially legs and feet are untouched, so something to do for tomorrow. Got some problem with zenithal lighting. The belt down area of clothes should be darker, damn it, this is harder than i thought.
