Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
I'm glad I started posting this here, some really cool things to consider. Thanks Docitalus!
Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
I like what you did on his coat - probably some more shadows and even more highlights would make it even nicer?

and the scabbard? keep the natural color scheme, so use some kind of muted brown, old leather color.

Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
Thanks so much for doing that Mahon, a great little guide! So do you figure I should add a lighter color like VMC Pale Sand to the Dark flesh, or just go super thin and glaze the lighter shade direct without adding any of the mid tone's or lighter? I am sorta concerned about "pinking" up the dark flesh. Maybe go to a more neutral brown liek VMC Beige Brown and then lighten from there? Hmmm..... Thanks so much you guys!
Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
the 'pinking' problem is why it's good to start with a lighter color and then go shading and darkening it.
I'd start with a pale color, pretty much muted, on the shoulders and then keep glazing it with browns and blacks to build up shadows gradually. This way you wouldn't be using any pink mix and would avoid the pinking problem.
Bear in mind it was just a very quick and rough demonstration, so it's far from being realistic and perfect. Just a way to show the general concept I meant.

Click to see full-sized imageDid more highlighting in the jacket, I think it's abotu where I want it to be. I used some VGC Tan then some VMC Iraqi Sand as a final highlight. Then I glazed a bunch with devlan mud, and some areas I thought looked a little crap so I glazed them with scorched brown to tone them down. Also added a bunch of color, or tried to, to the skin. I'll likely have to go back and put in some more highlights. Is the jacket color still too close to the skin? Do I need more blue, green, purple or whatever in the skin?
Still haven't gone back to the veins. I think I'll work on the gallows next to get a bigger and clearer picture. Next time I decide to spend this much time on a mini.... I GOTTA start with a plan! Making it up as I go is not great, and so far I've had a lot of issues with paint colors looking all similar. I am thinking off adding a lot of grey into the wood on the gallows to try and keep it from syncing with the brown, brown, and more brown of the rest of the model. Any other thoughts? Been getting good stuff so far!

That mini is really coming along with the flesh and the shading of the pants really standing out to me.
Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
A couples glazes of red/brown to lessen the pinky colour would help that i think
Re: Kingdom Death Man Hunter WIP
yeah! cool, now add some deeper shadows on the coat!
the skin is fine with me as for an undead or demonic creature. you might add a thin blue glaze to make him look less human.

Okay, thanks guys!
Nameless- I really am concerened about the same look the skin and the coat have! Lesson one - always map out your colours better! Yikes! Hopefully the little bit of fabric stuff on the right hand and left shoulder can break it up some. I was thinking of ochre shaded grey and highlighted up to a light khaki?
Arctica-I think a red glaze might be just the thing! Maybe a little red/devlan mud thinned all to hell applied several times?
Mahon- Thanks! I'll try to glaze in some of the olive drab shadow, but I'll mix in about half black this time to keep it dark.
Thanks gang!
