slim chance I might be going. they changed the rules majorly...which is a good thing. no more 3 entries only, no more "won gold last year, cant enter that category this year" and BEST change of all...no more teamworks - and servere consequences if you break that rule.
but i learned of the changes too late, so probably not gonna have enough time to finish painting.

I already described a bit what I did in the blog post... not really much to add.
First we (Mordred and I) went to the Warhammer Forge booth which was quite impressive, the nurgle toads, the upcoming dwarven steam tanks, very nice. I also spent some time in front of the display cabinet containing the upcoming Eldar... not really impressed, probably because of the edge-highlight way of painting, driven to the extreme on these figures. The only figures I really liked were the Mandrakes, nice painting on them too. I've searched for Urien Rakarth, but it wasn't displayed...
After that we went to the basement of the building where Forgeworld store was. I had to pick up a figure for a friend, so I wanted to make sure it was still in stock that's why we went there early (11.00h). We spent almost 45 minutes waiting in line before we could enter the store. I bought the figure, and some Tau Air Caste for my own. It's really amazing to see how much money some people spend there
Then we went to the first floor to check out some of the showcase displays, which were quite poorly in my opinion.
Then it was time to check out the Golden Demon contest. What struck me from the last time I was there (4 years ago-) was that the display cabinets were really crammed with figures. Not this time... some categories had only a few good entries (like the LOTR category, which usually is very tough). Duel and Diorama were exceptionally hard. But in general it was very inspiring.
Then we ventured into the city. It was cold and misty, but Köln is really nice so we enjoyed our stay.
At around 16.15h we were back and the ceremony had already started, so we missed some winners. You already know Raffa won the sword, but Sasha Bucek (don't know how to spell it) better known as Goatman won 5 demons or so, really crazy. As usual a lot of familiar names (Ben Komets, Georc, ...), but it's clear that a new generation is taking over.
I still think the event is quite expensive and a bit boring for real painters, but it was very inspirational and a good excuse to visit Köln
The 250km trip back home went smoothly, we enjoyed the autumn scenery and listened to some metal music as always. I think I will choose to go to DUZI instead next year...
