Hello to everyone,

Sorry for the late reply posting news of GD Canada. I had a lot of fun, just like last year and I would say that the painting level has gone up a notch.I would like to say that it was a privilege to meet and talk with some of the best painters in the world (Vincent Hudon, Laurent Esposito MAS, Mathieu Fontaine, James Craig, Dragomir) and exchange with them. The thing that amaze me every time is how simple and easy and ready to share technique , ideas these great painters are. Just great! My entries (shown in Â?your showcaseÂ? under Â?promiseÂ?) did fairly well and I'm more than happy with the results. My DA venerable dreadnought did not make first cut but I'm happy with the work I did and seeing that I'm not that far and that I've come a long way. My diorama, to my suprise made first cut! And I would say that it had a lot of people talking(even the judges). I was close when they made the selection and the judges looked up and ask somebody if it was him,he said no and I answered I did it. They ask me(with a smile) if I painted everything. I said yes and they decided to put it in the first cut. Some people said that it couldn't have gone any further then first cut because of the mix in minis of GW and LOTR. Something to do about New line cinema that I didn't quite get. A lot of people then wanted to know the story and I told them. Some said it was a brave thing to do, I only answered it was the right thing to do. So I guess I can turn the page on this story. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about look it up here under last year GD canada or see the text that was on my diorama.
James (Tkkultis) made first cut with is incredible diorama of 2 plains fighting). Great peice of work.

Mahon you wanted to know if I had help. Yes I had help with none other then my freind, this year slayer sword winner, Thierry Husser(TH miniatures). I saw his work before he presented it and was sure that it would be the winner. The pheonix on the cape of his high elf mage was something I couldn't believe. You will have to see it ... He tought me where and why of NMM highlight and lots of other things. He painted on his minis and I could see for my self and I tried it on mine, showed it to him and explained my good and my bad techniques. So I guess that's why I had such a difference since my first work that you saw. So yes M I painted everything by myself and that was OK for you to ask. But like you said, I'll have to improve on my smoothness.

I'm waiting for the official photos like all of you. Thanks all of you who gave me advices on my previous work(wish more woulld leave comments :))) and see you on the forum.

Cheers
Mark

I hope to see photos as soon as possible ;)

I am glad you had a good time and enjoyed the GD. What always makes me happy is that often you find that people you admire are not vain and selfish (even though their achievements would allow them to be proud and conceited) but helpful and nice.

Congratulations on the first cut! That's really something to be proud of!
And as for the 40K/LOTR thing - they were right. Mixing one with another is not allowed in the GD contest due to some terms set in licensing agreements with New Line Cinema.

So you only used some advice and no 'physical' help? Wow, so you improved quite a lot! Congratulations on that. Once you're on the right track, just keep going that way! Good luck!

Hey all - Had a great time at Toronto.

I think the field of models in Demons was a bit smaller this year but the quality overall was higher. Between that and a set of judges with a very different attitude and criteria set than many of us have dealt with in the past, many great pieces that might have placed in previous years werent even in the cut. The slayer was obvious from early in the day though as it was a really brilliant piece to see in person - the pics look good but the model was far better.

My battlescene did pretty much as I figured - it made cut which was nice but it still needed a bit more work to put in that cabinet - so close but between work and my baby son there were just not enough hours in the day to bring the highlights and focal points up to where I wanted them. No big deal though - i know what needs to be done and I should have it revised and ready to show in Chicago Duel Category. Wish me luck!

Oh and Moose - great to finally meet you in person :)
