well said, lai!

i have only been painting for a few months, i cannot really comment on how to improve it, only what i would do with it
and wouldn't you like to know from other paintest even such comments? aren't they inspiring?
stevannie wrote:secondly, if you asked 8 different painters to comment on the painted model , they would all give slightly different answers too, so if you took all their advice, you would have to paint 8 models.
yep, but from such a wide choice of suggestions and advice you can choose whsat suits you best
One more thought:
Dragyn said that he tries to be objective. I don't think you have to do that. Share your opinion about a mini. Sometimes you can't be purely objective, especially not in mini painting, where, for example, one likes a color scheme, the other doesn't, and so on.
sharing your opinion isn't being rude. If you don't like a mini and you say it, it's not rude is being honest. there is ofcourse a difference between ' god you're a bad painter, please don't post this crap ' or ' I think you have to thin your paints abit more and try to work with more subtle colours ' . A reply is only rude if you want it to be.
oh and I don't concider anyone who comments on my miniatures is rude. I love it when someone tells me their honest opinion because it helps me so much more than someone who just posts ' I like it ' .
Maybe that is because I really want to improve with great steps. I'm not pleased with my painting level now because I want to go to a golden demon level of quality or to say in CmOn terms a 9+ . for me the most frustrating thing is being stuck at the same level for more than a few months. a miniature is never perfect, and it might seem like nitpicking to say I like everything except for that little detail. It's not nitpicking, it's helping me improve by pointing out my small mistakes.

on topic: Guys but you also have to respect it if people don't want to coment. It's also an "opinion" in some way. Tbh. I don't see the need for a big discussion now anyway. The wish for some more critics has been voiced and heard - as we can notice, the rest is up to the users.
As mahon posted elsewhere: If you show something, please add the wish for harsh critics, nitpicking, etc. if you want to receive them. If people don't follow it - what can you do? VirtualSlap them?
But I believe the "core" of the comunity will do it's best to comment...
I think we should agree on "if someone wants help we should try to help him a bit more" and leave the discussion be since it don't really lead anywhere. ACTION, not TALK!
hi people
let me run this past you, ok so you sit there and paint your model, you sit there some more until its Finished. You then decide to post a picture to show what you have done, and everyone comments about it, now if you have put your work up as finished, does it need anyone to say, " its good, but you should have done this, or that"
why do we all assume because we put a model on show, we think it requires a comment, other than "well done" or "thats nice", after all, its supposed to be finished.
However, when posted in WIP section, thats when all the ideas and help come in.
Now if they were being judged in a Golden Demon comp, that would be different.
think about it
steve
PS can i just digress a moment, and say a massive thank you to all of you for writiing excellent english in this forum, as i know its not your first language, but it allows me to join in with everyone's conversation, and for a dumb ass brit this is brilliant, helpfull and very much appreciated
Most of the time I don't ever post advice for folks. Usually its because what they've done so far is a good five times better than my best fig ever. Which includes the knight that LE is working on for Chicago. If I was able to get such a paint job on any of my miniatures, I'd be jumping for joy.
So, its not so much that I'm afraid to be rude. Certainly I'm not afraid to be rude to a bunch of pixels on my screen that I may or may not ever attach a physical being to. But I do tend to feel preeminately unqualified to provide advice.
Wow. That made no sense, having read it over again. Oh well. In short, not afriad, just not having useful advice.
Edit: OK. Well, now that I just gave some advice, let me say that the above statement mostly refers to critiques of a specific fig. I think I can give advice all day about the theory of painting, just don't ask me to demonstrate. Or at least, I can pass on the wisdom of the many tutorials I've read through over the last couple of years.
