well, with all due respect for the winner, but if this can be slayer sword than it just says something about the painting level of the other contestants ...
sorry for the double post, but this beauty was there too and didn't win slayer sword? who says that it has to be a single miniature? someone should really go bitchslap some judges over there.

That Nid is part of a diorama, which means that it had to have been in the open category, which makes it ineligible for the slayer sword.
But hey. It gives me hope that I can totally win it all at Baltimore! I just need to make sure to enter something not in the open category, and I'll can be a winner! Yeah!

With the Big bug and Angelas Beautiful Marine I have to keep telling myself that it HAS to be simply magnificent in person and that the photographer accidentally put on a grainy lens that he found washed up on the beach ... or not. I admit I thought that the woodelf from last year was far from the best fig and that this year's one is not as good as the previous. That being said The creator is reputedly a nice guy and I wish no disparagement on him- the conversion is cool, the basing is beautiful, it has a nice pallette and was thematically strong. But I can and do disagree with the decision based on what I can see - But hey - that is nothing new when it comes to GD's - and I myself have been on both ends of the should have placed higher/lower (though usually on the former). Meh such is life and the tribulaions of entering into contests.

I also don't want to attack the winner personally but I strongly agree that it's not Slayer Sword material.
While browsing through some photo's of the event I think I saw a few others that would have been better choices for the Sword! Do I even dare say it... But might there be some favouring of friends involved?

As I said in a different thread about Atlanta... there should be a difference between commenting on a poor showing at a competition and sounding insulting.
Also keep in mind, GW doesn't have photographers that know anything at GDs and their graphics people are horrible with photos, too.
