to me the black parts look much like fast-and-effective way of painting. good contrast, linear strokes of highlights, no smooth blending. good for tabletop painting.

maybe you're right. I just saw several smoothly blended paintjobs done with the set.
BTW the boots look much smoother than the pants. must be the wrinkles which make the pants look like this...

I agree with Tomaz actually, i think it works quite well for the model but a tiny bit of contrast under the wings of the symbol would work very well too. This is looking superb and it's great to see the wips for this one :D

Added some shadows to the face

I think the gold is nicer now than before, my vote is for the current way :D
Getting back into the thick (or rather thin as in thinning my paints) of it, not picked up a brush in some time so this may hurt a bit until I get used to the feel of them again :doh:
