I also just noticed that if you leave the base colour that way it will be too similar to the NMM. You might want to look into that!

some excellent comments, i think i need to shade the grey's alot more too and make it smoother, i might add some blue to the mix too to give it a bit more dynamic colour. I've actually removed the upper torso this morning from the legs so i can paint the model better. In hindsight i wouldn't have glued the whole thing together

but at least im at a stage where i can go back to work on it. Cheers everyone

this model is very fun to paint tho
One thing is that adding rust to the model wouldn't fit the whole army, however i might add some dust around the feet rather than any rust, but i might put a couple scratches in the armour here and there to give it a more rundown feel, similar to Artur's work would be awesome i think.
On the toes i've decided to repaint the first one's back toe to be consistent with the others, the angle isn't steep enough to give that sort of lighting. But im really just taking my time with this model to refine my techniques. I keep looking at competition winners and inspiring works with all these different techniques but i really do need to get my current work to a great standard before i move onto other things i think.
Not sure if i'll do much more with my mourning knight, i've lost interest in the model, i find metallics difficult to do well but i'll pursue that line later.

Well i've gotten the legs to a good point now, im much happier with it. The back toe has been repainted to be consistent with the rest of the toes. Then i've darkened portions of the grey nmm and given it a hint of more colour to offset it with the stone. I think it looks alot better then it was, sorry about the slightly off focus images but they give a nice indication.
Like i said i detached the top half of the model so i could paint portions of the model easier. Next step is that top area. Im still thinking about whether i should put scratch marks etc across the armour plating, i think it might look quite good but im not brave enough at the moment, thoughts on that would be much appreciated.
Anyway here are some images:

Okay, I have to ask; What's the purple portion of the base supposed to represent?

The purple was just something different to everyone else's classic lava or water. I wanted some other colour to offset the blue's and gold. Don't worry i will be adding more detail to the base after i finish the model, i wanted to get a good feel for it first.
Everyone seems to object with the purple colour of it, so i might change all their bases, i think people would stop asking when i do lava or something more mundane. I thought it might have been a good idea but its constantly backfiring on me.

Those are very striking colours, the blue especially stands out for me.

Maybe Tomaz. I still need a good think about it anyway. But i've made a bit more progress this weekend, working on the insides and one of the arms, im mostly happy with the finish. It's still a tiny bit rough in places but i will neaten those up. I forgot how annoying large flat surfaces can be with the transition of colour like this, but im very happy with it in general. I might do the other arm next or start on the lower chest and work towards that side. Anyway thoughts and comments are welcome.
