Sadly, I'm afraid this last round has pretty much made me lose interest in this as a contest. It will be interesting to see what folks can pull off in two weeks, but I'm not going to be giving too much credence to scoring results.

I just read LadyEyes' post on the Wyrd forum, and if I get it correctly she wonders if size or quality is scored higher. I have to admit, that thought passed my mind also. I now really feel the need to build a huge diorama with 3+ miniatures or I will never go on to the next round. A single very high quality painted miniature has to do the trick also I think. But people seem to feel the need to go bigger and bigger. I suck at building dioramas, I rather spend an extra 20 painting hours on my miniature.
But maybe we're wrong, we'll see. For now I haven't got a clue what I'll be doing, and I wish Neolis good luck! (maybe we can make an agreement NOT to build dioramas
)

hmm, I advanced with a single mini, and got kicked out after making a dio...
I am yet to read Tanya's post there, but I guess I will generally agree with her. That's what I said after the Rd1 - dioramas are highly valued. I'm not sure if it really bothers me, as I considered it to be this contest specific feature. It's not a standard painting contest after all.

Well my piece had 3 minis on it and would be considered a diorama and was the highest scoring of the round so I guess this applies to my entry??. I thought I'd painted it pretty well to be honest... I think the thing with yours Bren is that the photograph is pretty shoddy and I think it's fair to say that it didn't show the mini off to its best advantage... you may have put in an extra 20 hours but who'd know? If the detail's not visible it basically doesn't exist.
I find a small diorama is better at times to show a tricky theme than a single mini.
Anyway, it's a fun comp... I'm not bothered if I win or lose tbh but at least it gives me a few more painted minis at the end.

No, no, nothing personal! I just wanted to mention the fact that it seems that people feel the urge to paint more and more in just 2 weeks. It's obvious that 3 really good miniatures (in a diorama) are better then 1 really good miniature. I just hope that size doesn't overshadow quality. I didn't say that your entry wasn't good! You deserved your points and I bow to everyone who can make nice dioramas.Beelzebrush wrote:Bren wrote:I just read LadyEyes' post on the Wyrd forum, and if I get it correctly she wonders if size or quality is scored higher. And I'm the first to agree that my photography is bad and that that doesn't help in an online comp. I'm trying to find other ways, because I get frustrated by it now. I realize that complaining about it doesn't help, and that judges can only judge what they see, not what they assume is there. But that doesn't make me stop painting details (until I run out of time ofcourse).

@ Bren... I thought the pics of your first entry were pretty decent to be honest and realy showed off what you'd done - which was superb by the way. The last round's pics were just a bit fuzzy and noisy and hid some detail... the senmm you painted was great though...
Well, I'm back to painting a single mini in the next round (unless I change my mind again!!). Good luck with your next entry

Just adding my thoughts here too about it. Being that this was my first IP I was kind of going in blind.
The over all presentation is what caught the judges eye so it was judged higher. I am can't reall do dioramas very well so I guess if this what it takes to advance to the next round of IP I too will have to bow out too.

Bren first its nice to speak with you after getting my butt kicked in so many painting contests online by you. I really liked the mini you did for crocodile games by the way. I can't promise the single mini thing though I can say that its a single 25 mm mini and one 6 mm one. Mostly cause I am entirely unable to think how to meet theme in just one mini. I make no secrets on what I work on and post wip pics here if not at wyrd. With that said your going to blow me out of the water on a single mini.Bren wrote:But maybe we're wrong, we'll see. Though a quote from Nov 08
Neolis wrote: I have to say I am honestly scared/not thrilled with the iron painter. I don't do a lot with mini dioramas and it seems to be a lot of that in order to make the themes that they list. Though I am sure when it rolls around again I am going to be convinced to do it. Watch now that I said that its going to be announced next week.
If it wasn't for the gutter my mind would be homeless.
