30/2009 - Grom da Paunch of Misty Mountain

Post by Nameless »

Thanks Wraithlord, I painted her dress, then glazed skin tones in places where dress was touching or close to her body. then glazed dress colour to tie everything. Repeated the double-glazing procedure until I was satisfied with the result.

and now, my last mini in 2009. I'm in the Iron Painter contest, the theme for the Round 1 was My hero. I got a bit sentimental by the end of the year...

Long time ago I was playing my first table-top battle using minis. Grom led his army to the victory against high elves of Ulthuan... or perhaps he did not? I can't remember the outcome of that particular battle, but it surely had an immense impact on my life. Without that game and My (first) Hero I wouldn't be where I am now.
I am no longer an active gamer, so I decided to close that period of my life by painting Grom da Paunch of Misty Mountain, the goblin king.
It may be debated if Niblit, his standard bearer should be the real hero, as he is the one that survived every single battle under my command.
Oh, as GW had only 1 wolf sculpt I decided to get 2 Reaper wolves to add some variety.

HELL YEAH!!! :metal:
I've been waiting for this piece for a long time and I'm so glad you managed to finish it on time :D
thing I'd surely try to correct are wolves - I know painting fur is more tricky than it might appear but these wolves look like drybrushed and not much more :(
maybe some glazes could help?

That is really cool :) i've always liked Grom the Paunch, and you've done this one proud. Im still not liking the background for the model but i agree with demi :) the flag could have been angled a bit better i think, to show speed of the chariot, but still it's cool :D

Don't you think it would look better with a more classic gradient?

I've already wrote under previous model - Phil seems to use too "juicy" backgrounds :)

The turquoise background is way to bright when compared to the figure.

The classic gradient looks better but has a bit too much white at the bottom.

I like the new "no-background-at-all" much better :)
