what brushes you are using (brand end size)?

the "real" look on minis that special subject as colors end contrast is acrualy scaled to so to get a real muted color you must actualy extraagorete it

end about red - dont add white to red to get highlight - you will get pink
mic is red + yellow / red + red + yellow + white depend on hue you are up to

- ther is a topic o forum about color theory end ther is about mixing paints

to me you should move a few steps back to get to the right path which will lead you where you want.

so first, return to simple but NEAT and CLEAN block painting.

take a mini, paint it with flat colors, no highlighting, no shading. just keep it neat and precise.

show us the results.

the second thing will be defining details by highlighting the edges and darklining divisions of parts. no fancy effects, just that.

show us the results.

practise highlighting and shading - work with contrasts. overdo it. if you t hink you got it right - overdo it a bit more. go from black to white.

show us the results.

practise smoothness, smooth transitions.

show us the results.

then you're ready to move back to your normal style of painting and start practising advanced techniques.

you may be the best artist, but remember miniatures are a different medium. learn it, master it, enjoy it, find your own way and style then...

In answer to a previous question:

Brushes: Toray Brush with triangular handle.
Sizes: #4/0, 3/0, 2/0, 0, 1, 2.

I went with a full set of triangular handle Vallejo brushes.
