sorry Mahon, whatever your purpose had been with this thread, that wizard just blew it up
I can't see oldshool, minis, paintjobs - I only see the storm wizard and laugh... oh god, let me have another coffee and try to come back here later
Way back then we didn't take miniature painting too seriously, and approached it with a sense of humour, this piece was done very much tongue in cheek and I am please it still has the intended effect! even if it is at my expense
Steve
Thanks for the post Mahon

Some time ago when I was still a little kid and didn't even think about picking up a brush, I used to sit down and go through my older brother's the first warhammer rpg book. There were two pages in colour in it that I enjoyed in particular. One had pics of hero miniatures and the other monsters. Old citadel stuff with oldschool paint jobs, hex bases and all that. I loved them. I think thats when I decided that i'm going to collect those tiny pieces of led, even though it took me a while to get my first one
But if I had to choose now, I'd probably choose the old ral partha / grenadier minis that scream AD&D at you

good one
yeah, we all have sweet memories of minis/things that dragged us into this hobby.
I'm also curious: will my son say 'oldschool' about mcvey, enigma and many other I consider modern/innovative? and how will minis look like in 20 years?

I tossed some of those old school shots up on my blog a while back, when I talked about we should try various new art styles.
