Although the tree is quite big, the whole composition seems to be very balanced, which is good :)

you have dark clothes and want them dirty. get some light pigments and create dust (or dried mud) effect at the bottom of his clothes

looking good - both the colors and the composition. but I would add a little highligts to the greys, to add a little volume, to shape it.

and the idea with pigments is pretty cool

Lovely metallics and weathering, i'm not much of an expert but you need to weather the axe a little ;) and maybe an addition of a dark wash around rivets and construction joints in the metal plating would help redefine the areas of the model and neaten it back up a little whilst keeping the weathered effect.

I think for the cloak definitely some additional highlights at the raised surfaces will turn this mini from a decent job to a great one. The extra contrast will help give the model much more definition. But you surely are on the right track

I'd go for more dramatic lighting, but it's just me...

it's a matter of taste. i like models that lighting makes look more dramatic, but some people may prefer a more reserved approach.

maybe Panda will step in and tell you about his own experience, how he felt he was pushing contrasts to the extreme until he saw competition models at Hussar 2010. I think it made him paint much bolder, but I won't be speaking for him...
