Re: Midnight Lurker's Crap
realistically speaking or just to make it look cool?
Re: Midnight Lurker's Crap
Yeah, instead of doing it black-white, you can try the black-shadow grey-space wolfes grey-white combination.
Also highlight the whole tip of the dagger, not only its upper part (it is thin at the end, so should reflect the light better). Try to increase the contrast - there is too much grey - making quicker transitions. Also highlight all the edges, even if they are next to a dark surface. Good luck, it is a difficult technique, and will not give good results on all sculpts. You have two really small blades to paint, which makes the challenge even harder.

Re: Midnight Lurker's Crap
Mahon-
I'm not really sure how to answer that...
I know that looking cool is not always the same as realistic. I guess as long as when you look at it and it reads "shiny metal" and harmonizes with what I already have going with the flesh and leathers that would be fine. If I can just get the HL placement down I can glaze in a little color and blend it with no problems. I just get stuck and then mental block sets in.
Do you think that the way the spear is turned three quarters to the side is complicating things?
My goal is to eventually be able to do NMM similar to the way Brokenblade does it. At least that is the style I like best. Like this one: https://www.coolminiornot.com/235913 Is that style called 'Eavy Metal?

I think sending him a link to your thread in a PM should work.
Or just search for his posts and you should find some NMM suggestions there.
Re: Midnight Lurker's Crap
Hi, sorry for late answer but i have a lot of exams on my university now and all what I do, is learn
I think shadows on spear are good but needs more contrast. I mean, now it looks a little like a stone, and if you need steal you schould make deepest shadows with black colour and pure white on hightlights. I hope this photo will help.

Jen, didn't I tell you that the people here would give much more useful critiques than over at the Reaper Forum?

Re: Midnight Lurker's Crap
